Estimate your home
Not sure? A front roofline with a garage is often 150 to 200 feet.
- Permanent, installed once
- $4,800 to $7,000
- Hiring a crew, every season
- $500 to $1,400
- Break-even at mid prices
- About 6 years
Permanent: $24 to $35 per foot. Crew: $2.50 to $7 per foot per season (HomeAdvisor). Estimates only.
What changes the price
- Footage. The biggest factor. You pay per linear foot of roofline lit.
- Height and pitch. Second stories, walkouts and steep roofs take more time and equipment.
- Peaks and corners. Lots of gables means more cuts and connections.
- Power. Most installs plug into an existing exterior outlet. A new outlet or a separate power supply for a garage adds cost.
- Add-ons. Landscape and accent lighting are priced separately.
How to measure your roofline
- Walk the front of the house and count the roof edges you'd want lit, including the garage.
- Pace off the length along the ground, or use the measuring tool in an online map's satellite view.
- Add up each edge. For peaks, measure both sloped sides.
- Round up. Your installer measures exactly during the free estimate.
Payment and warranty
Payment is due when your install is complete. Larger projects may require a 50% deposit when you book. Nex-Gen warrants its LED lights for the life of the light (rated about 20 years, or 50,000 hours) and its hardware, such as power supplies, controllers, cables and track, for 10 years. Labor for warranty replacements is not part of the Nex-Gen warranty, so ask your installer what workmanship coverage they include.
Compare with other options
A hang-and-remove crew charges about $2.50 to $7 per foot every season. DIY kits cost less up front but you do the install. See permanent vs hiring a crew and Nex-Gen vs Govee (DIY).
